Show & Tell!: Machine-to-Machine Communication and the Race for IoT
Bresslergroup is excited to team up with Comcast, Arrow, Microchip, ST, Cypress and NXP for an evening that will be packed with Internet of Things presentations and demos during Philly Tech Week 2017!
Bresslergroup’s Senior Director of Electrical Engineering, Todd Zielinski, will give a brief take on the M2M communication landscape, with considerations and criteria for product developers looking to choose the best one for their IoT needs.
Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication started to blossom in 2016. Early last year long-distance communications systems SIGFOX and LoRa were introduced as potential replacements for a cellular modem system that was inappropriate for the needs of the IoT market in the immediate term. In cellular, LTE M0 is now on the horizon to compete, and open-source LoRa has jumped ahead of SIGFOX to enable long distance ISM band M2M in North America, and Bluetooth 5.0 wants to get in on longer range and mesh connectivity.
Although the competition between the technologies could turn into a Betamax versus VHS battle of the 21st century for IoT devices, it’s more likely that different formats will appeal to different business models.
There will also be presentations from Bill Ver Steeg, Chief Architect of MachineQ, Comcast's new IoT network based on the LoRaWAN standard; and Brian Busacco, IoT Manager at Arrow North America— the world’s largest electronics distributor — on the state of IoT.
After the presentations, stick around to network, nosh, and check out demonstrations by major embedded electronics platform providers, including Microchip, ST, Cypress and NXP, set up around Bresslergroup’s studio.
Enjoy the show and tell, food and beer, and mingling with others working in IoT!
